My Little Acorn

Hello! So happy to be back joining in with Lou's Nature in the home autumn/winter series. I love the challenge of displaying something beautiful, natural, creative and cheap for this series.

Here's a little memento of our sun-kissed woodland walk from last weekend. The woods were full of fallen acorns but not many were still attached to their cups. I salvaged this dear little acorn and cup along with a twig of oak leaves. My National Trust badge (bought at a car boot sale for 10p) now has a little companion on my letterpress tray.

I think the simple design of the logo and the intricate texture of the acorn cup are just perfect and make great miniature display items.

  1. That's simple and lovely, Claire. To me, acorn caps always look like they should be on the heads of tiny woodland creatures, which reminds me of Beatrix Potter and her whimsical animals, which in turn reminds me of Beatrix Potter buying huge parcels of land with her book profits and protecting it all through the National Trust. I admire her and the National Trust so much.

  4. Beautiful. Isn't it wonderful that we can just go outside and collect leaves, acorns, pine cones, etc… and they become the most elegant and heart warming decorations in the home. All this and they cost nothing!

  6. Lovely, I love your second picture a lot. There are lot of acorns at my work place, but I didn't dare to pick some of them so far for display at home...

  7. Love this series (must find time to join in myself)! The earthy autumn colours are the best, totally adore the little acorns sunbathing on your table! /maria

  8. I love your old National Trust badge, what a good find. And the acorns just fit perfectly into your letterpress tray. I've got a letterpress tray on the wall with lots of photos and things in it. But I've got two more that I haven't done anything with yet. I really must think of something creative to do.

  9. Aren't acorns the most wonderful little packages? Nature was on a roll when she created those. Love how you've displayed them too x

  11. There is something so cosy about acorn cups ... odd word to use I know, cosy ... I think they remind me of childhood games.
