September Goals: Back to School

September. A clean page, a fresh start and a great time to set some new goals. After the freedom of summer, routine, rules and rigour are what I need. Here are my September goals:

Reading – I hope to keep my summer reading momentum going. There are so many books I'd like to read but I need to plan in more time for this. I've also finally got round to ordering some new glasses which I'm now looking forward to wearing.

Writing – after doing some freelance writing this summer I'm keen to do more (paid or voluntary).
Maths – I need to stick to a budget and keep tight reins on my spending. I'm keeping a spending diary and a list of the comparative cost of items to keep me in check. Menu planning and researching new recipes is time consuming but essential to eating well on a budget.
Creativity – I'd like to experiment with new recipes and also a few house projects too.
Playtime – life can be too scheduled and too much like a perpetual to-do list. Each week I plan to make time for some fun. Low-cost regular treats, outings, getting outside and seeing friends and family will brighten my autumn days.
Uniform – I'm quite excited about the arrival of autumn and the opportunity to layer. I will be creating a minimalist autumn wardrobe from my existing clothes with no new purchases planned.

Quite a challenge but you've got to aim high, haven't you?

Do you have any goals for September?

  2. Hi Claire! I enjoyed reading your goals, and I'm sure you'll do well in all the areas :)
My main areas of focus this month are: thesis, thesis, thesis!:P But of course, some rest time and play time are essential too.
    Keep inspiring!

  3. I do love that picture, simply lovely! My september and Autumn challenges are to declutter further and work on new recipes and budgeting better. Food prices in this country have skyrocketed and l need to get the costs down. I also need to get the sewing machine out and make all three boys new jammies for the cold season. They have grown a lot over the Summer :-). Hiking is on the agenda again this Autumn and l hope to get my hiking boots on every weekend or close. Good luck with your goals. Pam x

  4. No planes as yet. I feel like I just need to find a moment for myself.

  5. I always have a huge list of things I want to accomplish in September - something to do with children going back to school I think. The thing I really must do is sort out a bedroom for my littlest boy. This will involve an electrician, very tricky heavy furniture removal possibly requiring outside help and much resistance from other half, who is being ousted from his office. All of these difficulties have put me off before, but I need to make a huge effort and GET THIS DONE! Thank you for encouraging me to write this out. I'm going to go and do it now. Good luck with your list too, it's a good one.

  6. I like this list.

I'm inspired to have a look at all my clothes and see if I can create some 'new' outfits without spending.

  7. Hi Claire,
Funny you should ask about goals, because the goal I wrote down for myself for September was "Find Like-Minded Bloggers"...and here you are! Glad to have stumbled upon your lovely blog (and in the U.K., too--big bonus for me, as I'm an unapologetic anglophile in the states). I just subscribed by email and I'm looking forward to reading more from you!
    Best,
    Joy
