Let's Celebrate...

Hello.

Just a quick drop in to wish you all a Happy Friday and good weekend.

One of the things I'm enjoying most about blogging is the discussion generated by some of my posts. Honestly, I think you can learn more and get more insight into a topic from reading the comments than the original post. And it's interesting getting to know a little more about the readers of a blog through their comments over time.

Well here's a discussion point to cheer up a dreary Friday in the UK.

Today is National Middle Name Pride Day. The idea is to celebrate your middle name, take pride in it and reveal it to at least three people who don't already know what it is. Also, it might be fun to check out the origin of your middle name.

As you can see mine is Nicola (origin Greek, meaning victory of the people). I like my middle name. My parents chose Claire as it couldn't be shortened. Just think of the fun I could have had shortening Nicola.

Over to you. Do you like your middle name? Care to reveal...

  1. Mine is Mary after my Mom's stepmother's middle name. My first name was from her mother who had died when my Mom was about 5.

  2. Mine, boringly, is Elizabeth!

  3. Mine is Bjork. The word means birch (tree) in Icelandic. I like it, but hate saying it in "English", i.e. without the proper sounding o. I'm not named after anyone I don't think!

  4. My middle name is Michelle. Means 'who is like God'

  5. My middle name is Jane, which I don't like! It was going to be my first name I'm glad they changed it!

  6. My middlename is Magdalena. Obviously after the doctor who helped me come to birth. I don't like it particularly. Never had any real relationship to that name, if that makes sense. Also, it has no particular meaning (literal meaning: she, who came from Magdala - well, I've never been there) other than that story with the doctor. The sound is somewhat dull to me.

  7. Mine is Ann. It doesn't seem to have a meaning. I was given it because one grandmother was called Annie and the other was Hannah.

  8. My middle name is Marie. It has no particular meaning at all my father just liked the flow of it with my first name.

  9. I wasn't given one! We didn't give either of our children a middle name either. When she was 7, our daughter decided she was missing out and chose one for herself. Pip. That's now the name of her car!

  10. Mine is Margaret - which [altho some books say 'Pearl'] originally meant 'child of the light. My Mum and grandma both had Margaret as a middle name, as does our eldest daughter

  11. I love my middle name and would have loved to pass it on to one of my daughter's but my husband wasn't a fan. Sometimes I wish I used both names - Jill Marie. Marie also is my mom's middle name - another reason I like it.

  14. Confession time. I'm not actually Eleanor - that is my middle name. Prefer it to my real name for my blog as I am, to my great regret, a Doris....

  16. Oh, mine is Joy, too! And so is my best friend's - in fact, our birth names are almost anagrams of each other, which is really weird since we didn't meet until we were 16 and our families don't know each other... ;o
My maiden name was a happy season and my married name also has very happy connotations in a foreign language, so I have no choice but to be a cheery soul!!

  17. Mine is Joni, my Dad was going through a Joni Mitchell phase when I was born... I can't say I'm enamoured with it but it did make me check out her back catalogue in my late teens and made all my Uni friends think I was from hippy stock!
